In lean production, the waste free flow of material through the entire supply chain is the goal. The material should not stop and have continuous value added for producing the product. The analogy in product development is the waste free flow of knowledge throughout the entire development supply chain all the way into production. But knowledge is the result of learning, and most learning is from what does not work, not what does. This is the foundation of the Toyota product development system and the real meaning of lean product development. How do they create this waste free learning environment and how are other companies accomplishing the same thing within their companies. That is the focus of this panel discussion. the panel consists of leading practitioners from the companies recognized as the leaders in lean knowledge development.
