Lean Creativity

Creativity is a skill that can be learned, improved, and mastered. Lean Creativity - Faster ways to get better ideas at the fuzzy front end will discuss creativity as a thinking process. Over the past 70 years, theoretical and empirical research has made great strides in our understanding of creative and innovation processes. By tying together the theories of de Bono and Calvin with the empirical research of Altshuller, and the methodologies of Ohno and Goldratt, creativity as a thinking process can be understood and improved.  This new knowledge helps to explain how idea generation actually works and how to improve its effectiveness by using focusing methods and innovation patterns.  Effective creativity skills can be taught and used to solve a wide range of problems and exploit the opportunities of today and the future.

Session Objectives

  • Review the ongoing innovation productivity decline paradox
  • An understanding that creativity is a skill that anyone can learn and master
  • Learn some simple techniques to improve creativity
  • See some examples from ABB

Alex D’Anci is currently principal R&D Engineer at ABB IEC Low Voltage Motors in Vaasa Finland, responsible for new product concept development. The Fundamentals of Set Based Thinking

Andreas has worked closely with Dantar Oosterwal and continued to develop their Product Development model 7+1. A central part in this Lean Product and Process Development system is Set Based Thinking. Andreas will walk us through the true Fundamentals of Set Based Thinking and reflect on the challenges that comes with this way of working.

He was CEO of a lighting equipment manufacturer, before returning to consulting. He managed local and global footprint strategy developments and deployments.

Furthermore, he co-leads the product innovation & value management practice at Argo. In that capacity he has led several long-term engagements related to value engineering and Lean Product Development in the valves, pumps, agriculture, automotive, electronic goods and chemical industries in Europe, as well as in US, and Asia.
